IPCE marks 30 years with 40 per cent growth in exhibiting companies while delivering its largest and most comprehensive technical program to date

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith addresses global pipeline community as Canada advances new energy infrastructure

CALGARY, Alberta, Sept. 29, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The International Pipeline Conference & Expo (IPCE) concluded its 16^th edition in Calgary last week, 30 years after the event was first held, with more than 8,000 attendees from 44 countries and a 40 per cent increase in exhibiting companies. The event hosted pipeline leaders from around the world as Canada looks to expand its energy infrastructure and reach new markets.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith delivered the keynote address during IPCE 2026’s Opening Plenary. She spoke about the importance of pipeline safety and integrity as new projects move forward, including how emerging solutions are changing pipeline monitoring and maintenance.

“Faster approvals do not mean lower standards. Speed and safety are not in conflict,” said Premier Smith. “In Alberta, we believe the best safety outcomes come from government, regulators and industry working together. We want to lead the world in the next generation of pipeline safety.”

The technical conference, hosted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in collaboration with the Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI), focused on engineering and research across the pipeline lifecycle, with sessions spanning operations and maintenance, materials, geohazards, risk and reliability and emerging fuels.

“Collaboration and knowledge sharing are essential to advancing the integrity and reliability of pipeline systems,” said ASME Executive Director/CEO Tom Costabile. “IPCE gives engineers, researchers, regulators and industry professionals a chance to share technical expertise, learn from one another and explore solutions to the challenges facing pipeline infrastructure today and into the future.”

The growth of this year’s exhibition brought more than 300 companies to the BMO Centre, showcasing pipeline materials, monitoring systems, robotics, inspection tools and AI-driven solutions. More than 20 Knowledge Bar sessions covered inline inspection, leak detection, AI and data analytics, predictive modelling, repair technologies, advanced materials and infrastructure for hydrogen and CO₂.
