Mississippi State Forester Russell Bozeman Elected President of the National Association of State Foresters

The National Association of State Foresters (NASF) recently elected Mississippi Forestry Commission’s State Forester Russell Bozeman to serve as the association’s president in 2027.

NASF is the national organization representing the directors of state forestry agencies, as well as those serving in U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Established in 1920, the association promotes sustainable resource management, conservation, and protection while representing state interests in national policy discussions. NASF also works with federal agencies and other partners on issues affecting forests and natural resources.

As NASF board president, Bozeman will lead the association and represent state forestry professionals in national discussions on wildfire, forest health, conservation, land management, and other issues affecting natural resources. He will work with state and federal partners and industry stakeholders to advance priorities shared by state agencies.

As Mississippi State Forester, Bozeman leads the Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC), the state agency responsible for protecting and managing Mississippi’s forests. He leads the agency in wildfire response, land management, forest inventory, and public outreach.

Bozeman resides in Raymond, Mississippi. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry with a concentration in Forest Management from Mississippi State University. He began his career with the MFC in 2010, and the Board of Commissioners named Bozeman Mississippi State Forester in 2018. Bozeman is a registered forester in Mississippi and a member of the Southern Group of State Foresters, the National Association of State Foresters, the Society of American Foresters, the Mississippi Forestry Association, and the Hinds County Forestry Association.
