MDMR offering free 2026 Basic Seafood HACCP Workshop
BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) is offering a free Basic Seafood Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) Workshop for Mississippi seafood industry members, and anyone interested in learning how to produce and handle safe seafood. This three-day course provides training that teaches participants how to identify food safety hazards and implement practices that help ensure seafood is safe for consumers.
What is Seafood HACCP?
HACCP is a food safety system used around the world to help keep food safe. It teaches seafood businesses how to identify potential food safety hazards and put steps in place to prevent them during processing, packaging, storage and distribution.
This course is designed for seafood dealers, processors, employees and others who work with seafood. Participants will learn how to recognize food safety risks and how to prevent biological, chemical and physical hazards before they become a problem.
Workshop Dates:
September 15–17, 2026
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Biloxi, Mississippi (address provided after registration)
Mississippi students, seafood industry members and restaurant employees are encouraged to attend.
- Cost: Free for Mississippi residents; $160 for out-of-state participants
- Class Size: Limited to the first 25 registrants
- Refreshments will be provided
- Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an official certificate from the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO).
The Seafood HACCP course was developed by the AFDO and the National Seafood HACCP Alliance and meets the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) training requirements under 21 CFR Part 123.
During the course, participants will learn how to:
- Identify food safety hazards.
- Determine critical control points.
- Establish safe operating limits.
- Monitor critical control points.
- Take corrective action when problems occur.
- Verify that food safety procedures are working.
- Maintain required records and documentation.
